The political elite of Armenia imposes its fears both on Armenian and Karabakh societies. This a risky and dangerous step, as Karabakh authorities follow their lead unreasonably, Head of “Heritage” parliamentary faction Stepan Safaryan told NEWS.am, commenting on official Stepanakert’s stance “On Recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic” bill.

“It is unclear to me why Karabakh officials claimed last summer the moment is convenient for recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh, whereas today Karabakh keeps silence, and does not say whether Armenia must vote “for” or “against” its recognition, Safaryan stressed.

The Parliamentarian cited Matthew Bryza, when he drew a comparison between Karabakh and Kosovo several years ago. “Bryza stressed Kosovo itself gained its independence and Karabakh should knock at all doors and demand recognition of its independence. Recently Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Karabakh will have to wait patiently for the international community to recognize its independence. If Armenia fails to recognize Karabakh, it will be political lack of foresight to believe any country will do it. In this case, Karabakh will definitely have to wait for its recognition for centuries,” Safaryan noted.

The MP emphasized if Armenian authorities go on saying recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh will hinder the negotiation process, other countries will also reiterate this position. Meanwhile, Karabakh should itself demand its recognition from all countries.
