YEREVAN. - Armenia is the only country in the South Caucasus, which entirely controls its territory.

Director of the Caucasus Institute, political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan said the aforementioned at a press-conference on Thursday.

In his words, our neighbors, Georgia and Azerbaijan, cannot boast about this. “Armenia is the only country of the Eastern Partnership, except for Belarus, which is in full control of its territory. Armenia has quite decent economy among non-oil countries of the South Caucasus. It has certain political system, which has political elements,” Isakandaryan noted.

According to the analyst, among the former twelve countries of the USSR, only five countries – Moldavia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan - have certain public policy.  “The remaining seven countries cannot boast about this,” Iskandaryan stressed.

Touching on what has not been possible to achieve for 25 years of independence, the analyst said: “The political system in Armenia is quite turbulent. Polarization and people’s isolation from the elite can be observed here. The party system is very weak: we can say that there are no political parties. Rotation of leaders takes place in the domestic policy, since we are not a sultanate after all. But this rotation takes place against the background of very low confidence from the society.”
