The head of the “Azerbaijan without political prisoners”alliance, Igtay Gulaliyev met with the U.S. Ambassador Political Advisor William Solly on Friday.

Gulaliyev told Turan that the meeting addressed human rights situation in Azerbaijan, the problem of political prisoners and other issues.

“Human rights are massively violated in the country. Prior to the referendum on September 26 alone, over 200 people were detained and subjected to administrative arrests by the police.

In his words, the country has over 150 political prisoners, most of them being faithful. Gulaliyev attached special attention to those arrested over Nardaran events. He noted that the leader of Muslim Union movement Taleh Bagirzade, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party (APFP) Fuad Gahramanli and others have been arrested on evidence-free accusations.

Gulaliyev also informed on the presence of a large number of convicts, who fell victims to the arbitrariness of the former Azerbaijan Ministry of National Security (MNS,).

He also noted that the criminal case launched against him on the basis of Article 220.2 (call to unrest) has not been closed up to now, for which reason he has been banned to leave the country.
