Azerbaijan is upset over US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent statement with respect to the prospects for a resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Speaking at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that, “The recent statements from America cause surprise, to put it mildly,” reported APA news agency of Azerbaijan.

“Accusing Azerbaijan of a lack of a desire to settle the conflict is impudence, at the very least,” noted Aliyev. “We [i.e. Azerbaijan] don’t accept such statements. We believe that they need to be corrected quickly, at the highest level. Otherwise, the mediation mission [to resolve the Karabakh conflict] could cause doubt; this was a formally voiced theory.” 

As reported earlier, US Secretary of State John Kerry had stated that the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan are not ready for a resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
