YEREVAN. – Around 1,400 girls are not born in Armenia, each year, due to sex-selective abortions.

If this phenomenon continues at its current rate, according to projections, Armenia could lose almost 93,000 women, or potential mothers, by the year 2060. As a result, the population of the country may reduce additionally by about 80,000 persons, by the year 2060.

The comic strips, entitled “Story of One Girl,” will launch Monday in capital city Yerevan. Its objective is to fight against sex-selective abortions.

These caricatures will distributed free of charge in the public places of Yerevan.

This project was prepared within the framework of the “Combating discrimination against fetal sex-selection” program, which is funded by the European Union.
