The International Day of Rural Women, which is marked on October 15, has the objective of reminding the public about how much they owe to rural women, and how valuable their work is.

Rural women make up over a quarter of the total world population.

They play an important role in the development of food production and rural stability.

They also carry out the majority of the care towards children, the elderly, and the sick.

Nonetheless, they often are unable to defend their right to the land, and are deprived of essential services.

Their important contribution to public life remains invisible in many countries.
