On October 21, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received CE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland and delegation of participants of the Forum for the Future of Democracy.
Sargsyan welcomed forum organization in Yerevan and highly appreciated CE’s role in strengthening of human rights, democracy and democratic institutes, stressing Armenia’s commitment to the European values, RA presidential press service informed NEWS.am.
“Protection of fundamental rights of people and citizens, democratic values are cornerstone of Armenia and our statehood. After Armenia gained independence we have done significant work in this direction. Nevertheless, we fully realize that we have much to do and are determined to walk this way by the end, although they say this way has no end,” Sargsyan stated.
In his turn, Thorbjorn Jagland stated that organization keeps track of the Armenian developments. The Secretary General added that CE’s main mission is to help the countries to overcome this way. He shared the view of the President that this road has no end, although there are many obstacles to democracy in the world, he concluded.
