The line towards Russia has acquired quite a stable nature in Turkey, since the EU has somewhat distanced itself from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Political analyst and Turkologist Victor Nadein-Rayevski, who is a research associate at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of Russia, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

According to him, Turkey has not withdrawn from its intention to accede to the EU. “Thus the demands to the EU; the Turks haven’t withdrawn from the visa-free regime either. And yes, actually serious tension is put on the EU to achieve certain privileges,” Nadein-Rayevski noted.

As to Russia, this line seems to have acquired quite a stable nature, since the EU has somehow distanced itself from Erdoğan and his policy. “The criticism in his address is constant, even more so when the issue on ceasing the death penalty moratorium has been raised (since it was never actually abolished in the country). From this point of view, it is if course difficult to talk with the EU. Apparently, Erdoğan realizes this. Let’s see to what extent he will maneuver with this demand,” the analyst added.
