Turkey’s participation in the Karabakh conflict settlement process can only worsen the situation and toughen Azerbaijan’s demands.

Political analyst and Turkologist Victor Nadein-Rayevski, who is a research associate at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of Russia, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Touching on the possibility of Turkey’s activation in the Karabakh conflict settlement process, he noted that this is a very peculiar issue for Turkey. “Russia doesn’t really seek to expand its opportunities here, since Turkey is apparently Azerbaijan’s ally in everything. And it is unlikely to expect from them anything successful. On the other hand, it turns out that it is exactly Azerbaijan which dictates its conditions to Turkey.  How long is Erdoğan able to tolerate this?” Nadein-Rayevski said, stressing that the improvement of ties with Armenia and removal of blockade would be beneficial for Turkey. According to the Turkologist, this would mean improvement of ties with Russia. “Erdoğan will probably somehow continue making overtures to the issue to make Turkey participant in the process. But Russia isn’t at all inclined to admit new players in this field, since this would obviously strengthen the anti-Armenian positions.  And this will actually in no way fit Russia’s politics. This is Russia’s principled stance, since Armenia is our ally and this is the position which we categorically don’t want to withdraw from,” the analyst concluded.
