YEREVAN. – The opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Party of Armenia has decided to run in the 2017 parliamentary election by way of forming a democratic union with other political forces, NSU Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan said at a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, the forming of this democratic union will become the shortest way to change the situation in the country.

“This union will receive 80 percent of the votes in the parliamentary elections,” added Hayrikyan. “We will put aside all differences, even the fundamental [ones].

“Our objective is to achieve a majority in parliament with a single team, whereas we will discuss the differences later on, in parliament.”

The NSU leader expressed a conviction that this is an effective option. 

And when asked with which political forces the party would form such a union, Paruyr Hayrikyan responded: “With all forces except for the [ruling] Republican Party [of Armenia], since the Republicans also will come here after a phase. However, in general, we don’t rule out anyone.”
