YEREVAN. - Cases of maternal mortality have reduced in Armenia in the recent years, Chief Obstetrician-Gynaecologist of Armenia, Razmik Abrahamyan, told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

In his words, the maternal mortality index amounted to 48 in 2001, while in 2014 and 2015 that figure dropped to 18 and 12 respectively. “This means that such cases have significantly reduced in Armenia, despite the fact that the media outlets continuously circulate news on these cases,” Abrahamyan noted.

In the period from January to October alone, nine cases of maternal mortality were recorded in Armenia. According to the data of the National Statistical Service of Armenia, due to complications related to pregnancy, six cases of maternal mortality were registered in Armenia in the period from January to December 2015.
