The 13th Francophonie Summit was held in Montreux, Switzerland, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the alliance of French-speaking countries. Seventy organization member, as well as high-ranking delegation of observer state arrived in Montreux. An Armenian delegation led by Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian participated in the Summit as well.

The press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed NEWS.am that Minister Nalbandian stressed the importance of cooperation within the alliance, as well as the organization’s role in consolidating peace and harmony between nations by means of a multi-cultural dialogue.

Minister Nalbandian welcomed the decision on holding a meeting of the General Assembly of the Francophonie cities in Yerevan in 2011. He stressed that it is an appraisal of Armenia as an active member and reliable partner.

For the first time, the final resolution of the Francophonie Summit contains a point on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

In the resolution the participants re-affirm their support for the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ efforts to find a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Summit participants call on the conflicting parties to refrain from using force or threats of force, and continue negotiations on the principles proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

Abdou Diouf has been re-elected Secretary-General of the International Organization of the Francophonie.

Minister Nalbandian also held meetings with a number of his counterparts.

At a cultural event held on the margins of the summit Armenia presented scared and classical music.
