Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) decided to extend the ceasefire with Turkish authorities until next parliamentary elections in 2011. The decision aims to make the Turkish government demonstrate a commitment to be engaged in a dialogue with PKK.

Recently, the Turkish mass media disseminated information on Turkish Premier Tayyip Recep Erdogan’s new initiative. The authorities intend to involve PKK chief Abdullah Ocalan, who is serving a life sentence, in a dialogue to solve the Kurdish issue.

As NEWS.am reported previously, the term of PKK’s unilateral cease-fire expired on October 31, when a suicide bombing hit central Taksim Square of Istanbul. The blast injured 32 people, including 15 policemen and 17 civilians.

Turkish authorities did not directly accuse Kurdish militants of involvement in the terrorist attack. Al-Qaeda militants Islamist group, as well as an ultraleftist clandestine group are among the suspects.
