Talks on Cyprus might become an epoch-making event, but the UN is not looking for quick solutions, and does not expect miracles. This was stated by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Geneva, where negotiations about the unification of Cyprus between the leaders of Cyprus and unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are underway. Today, the UK, Greece, Turkey and the EU representatives joined the negotiations.
The UN chief ensured, that there is going on an open and constructive dialogue in Geneva. He stressed the importance of creating tools that will ensure security of Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities in the event of reaching the agreement.
Guterres praised the activities of the leaders Nicos Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci and said. that if the UN have had an Oscar award, they both would have received the prize for the best actors, whereas the UN would have likely been awarded for the performance in the supporting role.
