YEREVAN. – With the creation of free economic zone, we hope to become a transit bridge between Iran and the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Armenia, Martin Sargsyan said within the framework of Armenian-Iranian business forum on Friday.

“Both countries have huge resources useful for each other. Trade turnover between Armenia and Iran made $263 million following in 2015. The cooperation and creation of a free economic zone will allow Iranian businessmen to enter the Eurasian market, while the EEU countries will get an access to the Iranian market,” he said.

Asked by Armenian News-NEWS.am, whether the draft contradicts obligations assumed in EEU, Martin Sargsyan answered that all questions had been already discussed and added to the contract. As for probability of reaching an energy deal the chairman didn't exclude such a possibility.

 “The Iranian side is very open in this respect. The overall picture is that Armenia imports gas, oil and other oil products but exports cheap electricity. The launch of joint energy projects has been already announced,” he explained.
