On November 4, Russian President Dmitry Medevedev held a telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev. The sides focused on the preparations for and agenda of the OSCE Summit to be held in Astana, December 1-2.

NEWS.am reminds readers that, on the threshold of the summit, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov voiced the opinion that the summit will be a turning point in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Minister Mammadyarov announced his intention to meet with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian.

During the last trilateral presidential meeting in Astrakhan, the foreign ministers were instructed to continue the talks, and such a meeting may be held in the near future, the Minister said. At their meeting the foreign ministers are to discuss the preparations for the Astana summit.

According to Minister Mammadyarov, the “road map” is aimed at establishing peace and stability in the Caucasus.

Galust Sahakyan, Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), stated recently that Yerevan is not going to sign any “road map” without the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh status being dealt with in it. “A ‘road map’ is just a fine word, but Nagorno-Karabakh’s status is of primary importance for us,” he said.

The Russian  President did not rule out this possibility at the Astrakhan meeting.
