YEREVAN. - Subsidy should be provided to the circle and institution, which moves by certain logic.

Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan said the aforementioned at the discussion of the assessed performances of the state governance authorities of Armenia and the 2016 Action Plan of the Armenian Government, as well as the reports on fulfilling the priority tasks.

Agriculture Minister Ignati Arakelyan reported on the work carried out for the settlement of the priority issues in 2016. It was noted that a number of actions were carried out for the improvement of food security, development of different branches, etc. Referring to the actions to be carried out in 2017, the Minister noted that it is planned to reconsider the subsidy program of fertilizers, considering that the price will be lower in case of announcing an open competition.

Karapetyan inquired about the the training of farmers and support to cooperatives. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Robert Makaryan reported that the republic has 317,000 farms and 52 agricultural cooperatives.

The PM attached importance to the precise formulations of the actions. “Please form clearly how many farms you want in 2017. We must educate successful businessmen and show them that it is possible to earn money and live well dealing with agriculture.

According to him, the priorities in case of which the sphere of agriculture will develop include the digitalization and capitalization of the sphere, target orientation of subsidization, as well as mechanization and formation of a class of successful farmers.

“Subsidy should be provided to the circle and institution, which moves by certain logic. Those who lack logic shouldn’t be subsidized,” Karapetyan said.

He instructed the responsible ministries to solve the priority tasks and implement the respective actions in 2017 following this logic.
