Deputy Commander of the Nubarashen military unit Armen Baregamyan was arrested on November 4. On October 28, he brutally beat up the Armenian soldier Erik Grigoryan for more than an hour for failing to be ready for “reveille.”
The soldier suffered a brain concussion and a fracture of the nose and was taken to the military hospital.
According to the father, his son was being beaten in the presence of many soldiers. “Everyone said they had been afraid to interfere. The boy was unconscious, but he went on beating him. After the other soldiers helped my son into the washroom, he went there and went on beating him there,” Grigoryan said.
The Investigation Department of the RA Ministry of Defense informed NEWS.am that criminal proceedings were initiated on November 1.
A few months ago Armen Baregamyan was charged with a similar crime (abuse of office, involving violence against a soldier). On October 18 the case was sent to court, but Baregamyan is still at large and has retained his post.
