YEREVAN. – Armenia will use the funds from the Asian Development Bank to upgrade the seismic equipment for 80 - 85%, Armenian official said in the parliament.
Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Haykaram Mkhitaryan introduced the draft amendments to the law on seismic protection, offering modernization approaches for seismic protection of population and buildings.
The equipment will be purchased as a part of the ADB loan of 63.3 million SDR (around $87 million). The funds will be also allocated for protection of school buildings in Armenia's regions.
The seismic risks in Yerevan were assessed in 2011-12 with the help of experts invited with the support of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.
