Prosecutor General’s office in Belarus confirmed that blogger Alexander Lapshin has not been internationally wanted.
Representative of the prosecutor’s office told RIA Novosti that Lapshin who was arrested in Belarus and extradited to Azerbaijan had not been wanted by Interpol. He was detained in accordance with the agreement signed between the CIS states, they said.
Earlier Armenian media reported that police had addressed Interpol but was informed that Lapshin had never been wanted by their organization.
The statement of prosecutor’s office contradicts the claims by President Alexander Lukashenko. During his February 3 interview President of Belarus said Lapshin had been detained “under the decision of Interpol”.
