It is unnatural to form alliances against rather than for something. Such ones have no prospects, Gagik Harutyunyan, Director of the Noravank research complex, told NEWS.am, commenting on the idea of developing Georgia-Armenia-Iran cooperation to counterbalance the Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan alliance.

“I do not believe such confederations may be efficient. The Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan project has no prospects either. Specifically, Georgia is using this alliance for strategic purposes to counterbalance Russia to show they are capable of such steps. This, in turn, is evidence of the West’s waning interest in Georgia, which, in turn, has to look for allies in the region,” the expert said.

The main aim of deeper Georgia-Armenia-Iran cooperation is for Armenia to become a link between Georgia and Iran. In this respect, the construction of the North-South highway to get under way soon is highlighted for Armenia. A highway to run through Armenia - from the Georgian-Armenian border to the Armenian-Iranian border – will be constructed in conformity with international standards.
