It is unlikely that Turkey will get any territory from Syria, stated political scientist Karine Gevorgyan.

She noted this commenting—at the request of Armenian News-NEWS.am—on Turkey’s statement with respect to setting up a “buffer zone.”

When asked whether this plan could turn into a second “Cyprus issue,” the analyst expressed a view that such a development is unlikely. In this context, she recalled that the Cyprus-related events took place under other circumstances.

“The world is changing the paradigm of existence,” noted Gevorgyan. “It’s turbulent processes everywhere.”

In the political scientist’s words, Turkey would like to get a piece of Syrian territory, but it hardly will be able to keep it.

“The situation in Turkey itself shows evident signs of instability,” concluded Karine Gevorgyan. “And it’s not at all clear how the country will come out of this situation. There is a task of getting a territory [from Syria], but it’s unlikely to achieve this objective.”
