The Armenian churches of Ukraine will hold liturgy commemorating the Sumgait pogrom, Analitikaua.net reports.

The liturgy will be served by the churches at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church reports.

The Armenian community of Ukraine holds different events commemorating the victims of Sumgait pogroms in many regions of the country every year.

On 26-29 February, 1988, mass pogroms of peaceful residents took place in the Azerbaijani town of Sumgait, which was accompanied by murders, violence and pillage —unprecedented in terms of their cruelty—against the Armenian population of the town. Hundreds of Armenians were killed and wounded during three days.
