Georgia is negotiating with the South Caucasus Railway (SCR) for the overhaul of four diesel locomotives, Romik Stepanyan, Chairman of the SCR Fuel and Energy Commission, told journalists Nov. 10. He pointed out the recently renovated and modernized Yerevan locomotive depot is the best equipped one in the region.
“I am sure that, as a depot of regional importance, we will soon get orders from Iran, as well as from other countries,” Stepanyan said. He pointed out that the Gyumri locomotive depot is presently under renovation.
Stepanyan said that a total of 1 billion RUR were invested in the rolling stock management.
He pointed out a serious decrease in the number of accidents – 133 this year against 450 last year.
