YEREVAN. - The Karabakh conflict should be resolved on the basis of the principle of self-determination of peoples.

Representative of the Progressive United Communist Party of Armenia, Vazgen Safaryan, said the aforementioned on Monday at the debate between the parties and alliances participating in the country’s parliamentary elections.

In his words, the principle of self-determination of peoples has always been above that of territorial integrity. “Otherwise, there wouldn’t be over 50 states in Africa,” he noted.

Safaryan also added that the world should be reminded of the supremacy of the principle of self-determination and the Communist Party should use its old and new ties to achieve this. Besides, it is necessary to develop the country’s economy, he stressed.

“Only a state with strong economy can dictate conditions in foreign policy,” Safaryan concluded.
