The US President Donald Trump has confirmed the US commitment to NATO and demanded the allies to allot at least 2% of their GDP for defense purposes. Trump made this announcement at the White House during the joint press conference with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, reports TASS.

 “I want to thank the chancellor for supporting NATO and its efforts in Afghanistan… I reiterated to Chancellor Merkel my strong support for NATO as well as the need for our NATO allies to pay their fair share for the cost of defense," Trump said. 

Trump also said, that the desire for security, prosperity, and peace unites the US and Germany. He paid attention to the common values  the two countries share.
