The EU Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against nine suspects involved in illegal organ transplants in Kosovo.
According to EU prosecutor’s office spokesman Jonathan Ratel, a group of perpetrators mainly targeted poor people. The operation was carried out in Kosovo. Clients, for example, were offered money to give up one kidney.
The criminals made a simple calculation. They promised $20 thousand to donors for their organs and sold them to patients who needed them for $110 thousand up to $ 137 thousand.

According to the indictment, in 2008, about 20 foreigners, including people from Russia, Moldova, Kazakhstan and Turkey were recruited with false promises of cash payments. The charges were brought against seven Kosovo citizens, including the former high-ranking representative of the local Ministry of Health, as well as against a Turk and an Israeli. None of them are under arrest.
As noted in the report, the hearing for the case is scheduled for late November. It is possible that the number of defendants and more charges will be filed, RIA Novosti reports.
