After five years of peace, the Somali pirates again began their armed attacks.  In March only, they have carried out three attacks on merchant ships. The crew of one of the ships is still in their captivity.

The UN office on drugs and crime has warned about the threat of the piracy off the coast of Somalia and urged to be cautious. The temporary peace is explained by successful joint actions of many states and the national security forces of Somalia. 1300 pirates have been hold accountable with the support of the United Nations. According to the UN, piracy is a well settled business, which brings huge profits in the form of ransoms.
