António Guterres regrets the decision by the US to cut funding of the U.N. Population Fund.

Guterres said that Washington's decision will have extremely serious consequences on the health of vulnerable women and girls around the world. He thinks the reason of that decision was an inaccurate understanding of the nature of that issue.

The Fund also expressed a regret over the US decision. There is a wrong understanding behind it. "There is no evidence that UNFPA directly engages in coercive abortions or involuntary sterilizations in China, the agency continues to partner with the (government) on family planning, and thus can be found to support, or participate in the management of China's coercive policies," he said.
