Armenian Apostolic Church will not get status in Georgia. “We will not give status to Etchmiadzin,” Yelena Tevdoradze, Georgian Deputy Minister of Reintegration, said in the course of “Armenian society in Tbilisi: problems and prospects” conference.

Tevdoradze advised Armenian community to work harder with young people. The Deputy Minister stressed that the government and communities should jointly think how to help citizens in studying Georgian, avoiding assimilation and loss of native language.

One of the most sensitive issues was official recognition of the Armenian church. Yelena Tevdoradze said that under country’s Constitution all have right to register their religious identity. “However, we will not give a status to Etchmiadzin Church in Georgia, as the Armenian Apostolic Church existing in the country is so called branch. We do not recognize Etchmiadzin church in Georgia,” she said leaving the hall.
