Сommander of the military unit Vardan Martirosyan, and deputy commander of the regiment for personnel management Artur Karapetyan are removed from the office under the decree of Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan. Talking to NEWS.am, spokesperson for the ministry David Karapetyan said that they are assigned to reserve, in case their guilt is proved in the court they may be dismissed.
Vardan Martirosyan, nicknamed “Rozh” and Artur Karapetyan were arrested on extortion charges. On October 29, they were released on bail. Interestingly, Vardan Martirosyan was released on AMD 1 million ($2,800), whereas Arthur Karapetyan-on AMD 820.000 ($2.300).
Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office filed an appeal against court’s decision but it was rejected by the Court of Cassation. At the moment the accused are at large.
