German authorities provided the status of political refugees to Turkish military officers and their families who have diplomatic passports, AFP reported quoting German media.

Earlier, the German Interior Ministry confirmed the information on receiving 262 requests from the Turkish diplomats and the military officers for granting asylum in Germany.

Requests for asylum were filed at different times after the coup attempt in Turkey.
