On November 18, representatives of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) met with Azerbaijani war prisoners in Armenia, Ashot Astabatsyan, ICRC Yerevan, told NEWS.am.

According to him, ICRC representatives visited Azeri war prisoners to working schedule. The visit was of human nature and they aimed to get acquainted with war prisoners’ physical, psychological state and conditions of detention. Under the principles of confidentiality, the war prisoners conveyed letters to their families, Astabatsyan said.

As to whether talks are underway to handover Armenian war prisoners in Azerbaijan to the Armenian side, Astabatsyan said: “We are acting as a neutral mediator. If the sides turn to us, we will organize the handover of captives.”

Two Azerbaijani war prisoners Roman Huseynov and Anar Hajiyev are kept in Armenia. Hajiyev crossed the border on May 10, 2009, whereas Huseynov-on August 27, 2010.
