One should not expect breakthrough on Karabakh issue at the OSCE Summit in Astana, said Alexander Jackson, senior editor of the Caucasian Review of International Affairs.

The maximum expected is that Armenia and Azerbaijan may issue statement on their commitment to the peaceful process and progress reached during recent negotiations, he said in an interview with 1news.az.

According to him, most likely the high level summit will focus on regional security issues, as the chairing state is Kazakhstan having close ties with unstable Kyrgyzstan.

The expert considers the longer status quo is maintained the bigger is threat of war in Karabakh. Besides, frozen conflict also hampers economic and political development of the South Caucasus, he added.

As to the peace process, Jackson believes the parties are on their way to breakthrough. He noted that certain progress has been recently reached, both sides exchanged bodies of soldiers. Baku and Yerevan are close to agreement, they say. However, such statements have been already made for many times, therefore resolution of the conflict should not be expected in the near future, he concluded.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, Yerevan called rumors about “road map” on Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan’s trick.

At the OSCE summit in Astana Armenian and Azerbaijan sides will try to concentrate on three basic principles – people’s right to self-determination, territorial integrity and non-use of force,” he noted.

According to Zohrabyan, everything will start from scratch. Right of Karabakh people to self-determination and non-use of force are key issues for the Armenian side. Thus, the Armenian side will put forward its demands.
