In the course of the official visit to Syria the Armenian delegation headed by Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan was received by the Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun.

The Grand Mufti highly appreciated Abrahamyan’s visit to Syria, noting that Armenians are brothers and sisters of Syrian nation, RA parliamentary press service informed NEWS.am. He stressed that the local Armenian community furthers development and strengthening of Syria. Badr Al-Din Hassoun wished Armenia and its nation prosperity and might, noting priceless efforts of the country to establish peace in the region.

In his turn Hovik Abrahamyan pointed out Arab people’s support in the tragic days of the Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, as well as Armenian community’s role in establishing ties between two states and nations. He stressed that construction of Armenian churches, cultural centers and schools contributes to development of Syria’s multinational and multi-confessional civilization. The Armenian Speaker noted that Syria is the best example of dialogue between cultures and religions, as well as religious tolerance.
