During his presidency Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has been pursuing multi-vector policy and relations with Iran have always been open and transparent, Secretary of Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov told NEWS.am, commenting on the documents’ disclosure on WikiLeaks website.  In a letter, U.S. authorities blame Armenia for arms’ transfer to Iran.

“Armenia-Iran relations are following a course in the eyes of the international community and we are interested in close relations between Tehran and Washington.  The relations between Armenia and Iran, as well with U.S. develop positively and it meets Armenia’s interests,” Sharmazanov stressed.

As for Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s statement on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution, RPA member said: “Aliyev goes on surprising the international community with his absurd statements. This time his double-dealing has been revealed. He receives leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran with outstretched arms, vows fidelity, then defames them in conversations with foreign officials and discusses their shortcomings.”

According to him, the release of scandalous documents brought about serious cries of protest in Turkey, Russia and Iran against Aliyev’s policy.

As to whether arms transfer to Iran via Armenia will affect Armenian-American relations, the politician said: “Armenia never acted covertly with U.S., Iran and the EU states. Armenia seeks regional peace and stability. As for the U.S. officials’ attitude towards the Armenian ruling political elite and Sargsyan-pursued policy, Sharmnazanov recalled U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commended Armenian leader and his policy during her visit to Yerevan.
