Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has described as “authoritarian delirium” plans by the ruling parties in Catalonia region to declare independence from Spain within 48 hours of a promised referendum October 1, if voters say “yes,” AP reported.

His comments followed after the ruling parties of Catalonia provided detailed information on the bill for the planned referendum. According to the bill if most of the residents vote for “yes”, independence will be declared within two days regardless of the vote’s turnout percentage.

Madrid says that there will be no referendum, as it violates the country's constitution.
