The statement made in Astana is one more logical step in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, which stressed a peaceful settlement has no alternative, Artak Davtyan, an MP of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told NEWS.am. He underlined the paramount importance of considering all the principles and documents as a single whole.

“Viewing a principle or statement in a different aspect and presenting it as superior to the others runs counter to the logic of negotiations and cannot be considered a step toward a settlement,” he said.

He stressed that the statement contains a reference to the U.N. Charter, which mentions peoples’ right to self-determination and their quality.

As to the OSCE Summit’s possible influence on further negotiations, Davtyan said that any rapid developments can hardly be expected. “However, Astana is the result of the previous work. No doubt, a peaceful dialogue is the only key to regional stability,” he said.
