Azerbaijani Deputy FM Araz Azimov, who must have come to senses after official Baku’s failure at the Astana Summit, made an attempt to put a good face on things. After getting away with irrelevant comments, Mr. Azimov tried to present everything in a favorable light.

“We had fundamental statements relevant to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict read out at the Astana Summit,” Azimov said. “Some states’ positions did not allow the basic settlement principles to be incorporated in the documents. Since the OSCE is an organization following a consensus principle, we made all the necessary steps to achieve our main aim. We got the necessary fundamental statements adopted,” the Azeri official said.

He also offered an original interpretation of the Helsinki Final Act, ignoring the world leaders’ calls for not separating none of the three principles.
