“Turkey is learning important lessons from correspondence between the US and its diplomats around the world being leaked by whistleblower website WikiLeaks, and has started working to strengthen the security of its own confidential documents,” Today’s Zaman writes, referring to Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Naci Koru.
“What I mean by strengthening document security is to check if our [document security] system has any gaps. We have held a number of security meetings since the WikiLeaks revelations. We are continuing our discussions as to what can be done to improve document security. I can say that we are not faced with any important security threat for the time being,” Koru told Today’s Zaman.
Koru said such leaks could happen any time in any country. That is why Turkey is working to improve confidential document security.
“No one can say that their country will not ever be faced with such leaks. It may happen anywhere and anytime. What is important is to reduce the possibility. The first measure is not to share your confidential system with anyone. If you do, then you may face security-related problems.”
