The OSCE summit held in Astana showed that principle of nations’ right to self-determination, along with other principles, should be applied while resolving conflicts, Karen Bekaryan, head of European Integration NGO, told the journalists today. He also added that all three principles of settlement were fixed at the summit.

During previous summits it was very vague and the right of nations to self-determination was not mentioned at all but the situation has changed, he noted. According to him, the Armenian side can sigh with relief as the final statement can guarantee Armenia’s security.

As to Armenia’s recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh, the expert stated that parliamentary vote scheduled for the next week should be postponed. “It will be illogical if Armenian President states that it would be done in case of military aggression, while the parliament is putting the issue to the vote,” he stressed, adding that such conduct does not conform to Armenia’s foreign policy and the consequences are unpredictable.
