The Moscow unrest was provoked by the Russian authorities’ propaganda, the Georgian political scientist Soso Tsintsadze told NEWS.am, commenting on the recent events in the Russian capital.

“Every day we can hear about ‘Russia rising from its knees’, ‘Great and powerful Russia’ and similar statements aimed at arousing nationalistic and patriotic feelings among Russians. Due to such brainwashing Russian young people, who, besides all this, listen to Mikhail Leontyev with his jingoistic ideas, take up knifes and clubs,” Tsintsadze said. “All this caused problems to both ‘ours’ and ‘yours’ – all the national minorities of Russia – who do not go there to ‘enjoy life’, but have to earn their living,” the expert said.

“Putin took advantage of the stir and staged a public meeting amid the brawls. He made it clear that Russian democracy is a mere illusion, but the country is following a course of forming a strong-arm center of power,” he said. According to the expert, the Western newspapers carry screaming headlines on Russia in need of a strongman, which is direct evidence that Putin succeeded in carrying out his plans. “At least, Russian task forces will be able to neutralize several thousand hoodlums,” he said.

As regards the possibility of Russian authorities provoking unrest as an instrument, Tsintsadze said: “Vladimir Putin is a rather clever person. He will not abuse the situation.”
