Azerbaijan has increased its military production 3.6-fold this year as compared with last year. The country’s military production has registered a 115-fold increase since 2006.
“The country is no longer dependent on import of ammunition,” Lenta.ru reports, referring to Yaver Jamalov, Minister of Defense Industry of Azerbaijan.
Eight new production units are to be put into operation in Azerbaijan before next March. Azerbaijani defense industry is producing arms of different calibers, ammunition, mines, grenade launchers, as well as Zafar, Zafar-K and Inam pistols, which meet NATO standards.
Under a government defense program, 108 types of arms are being designed in Azerbaijan, Jamalov said, without going into details.
Late this October, the Azerbaijani Parliament approved the country’s 2011 draft budget. Next year the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense is to receive U.S. $3.1 billion.
