Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement “in the case of Azerbaijani military aggression Armenia will have no alternative but recognize independence of Nagorno-Karabakh de jure,” is a wrong approach. It is wrong to condition Karabakh’s recognition only by war, as we would have  lost much by that time,”  Giro Manoyan, head of the Hay Dat (Armenian Cause) office, ARF Dashnaktsutyun told a press conference on December 20.

According to him, in case Azerbaijan launches hostilities, Armenia should declare joining Nagorno-Karabakh, not to recognize Karabakh’s independence de jure. “However I think, the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh will not be placed on the agenda in 2001 either,” Manoyan noted.

“Baku is interested in causing damage to the Armenian side. Armenia is strongly against a military settlement of the conflict. However, in the case of Azerbaijani military aggression Armenia will have no alternative but recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state, as it has no future as part of Azerbaijan,” Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan had stated in his speech at OSCE Summit in Astana, December 2.
