Andranik Hakobyan qualified for the finals of the AIBA World Championships 2009 in Milan. He became the only Armenian to reach the finals after his 4-3 victory over Venezuela's Alfonso Blanco. Today he will face Abbos Atoev (under 75 kg) from Uzbekistan, who is defending light-heavyweight world champion.
Russia sent six boxers through to finals. Cuba, Italy, Ukraine, Mongolia, Puerto Rico and Uzbekistan are represented by two sportsmen each, whereas U.S., Bulgaria, Germany and Armenia-by one.
