Armenian-Turkish reconciliation was the key event of 2010, Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Samvel Nikoyan told the journalists today.

He recalled that Turkey  took the decision of the Constitutional Court related to the Armenian-Turkish protocols negatively, unlike co-chairing states. When it became clear that Turkey continues speaking on a language of preconditions, the Armenian President suspended ratification of the documents. “Turkey continues to claim that meetings and talks are underway, but these are only political tricks aimed at improving Ankara’s relations with international community. Instead of making numerous statements Turkey should be the first to ratify the documents,” Nikoyan noted.

Vice Speaker also touched upon the Karabakh peace process. According to him, Azerbaijan was trying to extract advantageous decisions, that is why provocations followed the talks.

“Statements of the representatives of Russia, U.S. and France had major importance at the Astana summit. It was the first documents which clearly mentioned equality of nations’ right to self-determination and territorial integrity. Important provisions of the UN Charter were noted as well. We were successful in foreign policy this year,” he concluded.
