The Nagorno-Karabakh problem will not be resolved next year. However, due to the U.S. policy in the region, some changes are possible, especially next autumn, Ara Sahakyan, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Geopolitical Problems, told NEWS.am. According to him, the resolution of the problem is not “play into the hands” of either Armenian or Azerbaijani leadership.

“Both in Armenia and in Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh has become a good means of retaining power,” he said.

According to him, the world powers are interested in conflicts and instability in this region.

Ara Sargsyan pointed out that all the three Armenian presidents let the victory gained in the Nagorno-Karabakh “go to the winds.” However, Serzh Sargsyan is the only one trying to improve the situation. “I hope Serzh Sargsyan will soon put into practice his statement made at the OSCE Summit,” the expert said, meaning Armenia’s recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh in case Azerbaijan launched hostilities.
