Chief editor of CNNTurk daily news Mehmet Ali Birand touched upon the recent developments in Turkey-U.S. relations.

In the article “We will look for Armenia-Turkey Protocols by candlelight” Birand commented on H.Res. 252, the Armenian Genocide resolution, stressing the only solution to the problem is the ratification of the accords. “We hardly managed to escape the goal kicked by the Armenian Genocide Resolution. As a result of pressure by Obama administration, Jewish lobby’s support and lack of votes, the goal turned out to be offside and everybody breathed with relief,” he noted.

The analyst stressed a new Armenian Resolution will be submitted to U.S. Congress. “This will go on till 2015 (100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide). The only way to halt this process is the ratification of Armenia-Turkey Protocols,” he mentioned.

“We must admit Ankara failed to implement the documents. Turkish Foreign Ministry did not manage to explain the Azerbaijanis what is what or the Azeris did not take it seriously. Turkey failed to break Aliyev’s backbone and bowed to Baku. However, Ankara deeply regretted for it. Unless we revive the protocols we will not be able to get  rid of the Armenian resolutions,” Biland noted.
