This year, the opposition party Heritage has drafted 43 bills. However, most of them were not put on the Parliament’s agenda.

At a press briefing Heritage faction Chairman Stepan Safaryan pointed out that faction members made 56 statements, conducted public meetings and visited places of confinement. They were also actively involved in international agencies’ activities.

The MP Zaruhi Postanjyan pointed out that the major omission of this year – the Armenian-Turkish protocols are still on the Parliament’s big agenda. She also regrets the existence of the Madrid principles, which, she believes, are against the Armenian side’s interests. Postanjyan is also indignant at the amendments to the RA Law on Language and RA Law on Education. The amendments provide for the opening of foreign-language schools in Armenia. According to her, the documents are a challenge to Armenia’s independence. The MP also expressed her regret over the regress in the freedom of speech and human rights situation in Armenia.

Another Heritage Party member Larisa Alaverdyan is optimistic. She is confident that “the positive will triumph over the negative.” She pointed out that extraordinarily negative statements have been made this year. “Even Lake Sevan has been turned into a mire, with every living creature dead there,” Alaverdyan said with indignation.

The MP Armen Martirosyan congratulated the Government on “extraordinary achievements”, such as 80% poverty and minimal wages. “The Heritage Party has always focused on socio-economic problems. We even drafted a bill increasing the minimum wages and indicating the ways of achieving the goals. However, the Government ignored the document because it was aimed at bringing the economy out of the shadow. As to the recently adopted bill on compulsory car insurance, it is nothing but legalized government racketeering,” Martirosyan said.
