A rally in defense of the ALM TV Company has been held in Yerevan today, January 7. Late last year the TV company’s broadcasting license was revoked. Chairman of the Popular Party of Armenia (PPA) and President of the ALM Hoding Tigran Karapetyan, as well as a number of party members, spoke at the rally.
Representatives of Armenia’s national minorities took part in the rally as well. The ALM was the only Armenian TV channel that afforded national minorities the opportunity to inform the public of their problems on air.
Speaking at the rally, Tigran Karapetyan pointed out that by closing the TV company down the Armenian authorities try to “silence the voice of the people.” “How can the close down a TV channel working for the people, for the state?” Karapetyan asked. He stated they are struggling against a totalitarian state.
The next rally in support of the ALM TV channel is scheduled for January 19.
NEWS.am reminds readers that the ALM TV channel’s broadcasting license was revoked as a result of contest. The TV channel is to stop broadcasting on January 20.
